Types Of Discrimination
Discrimination is the act of meting out differential treatment to a person who has a mental or physical disability only because of the disability. That is called discrimination and disability is defined as a condition which hampers a person from living a normal day to day life in the society. There are different types of disability that are faced by people. The American Disabilities Act against discrimination or the ADA protects the rights of the disabled people and others. There are several types of discrimination prevalent in the society today. |
Age discrimination is faced by the seniors and people who are above the age of 60 at various places like employers and public services. They are sidelined and also employers overlook their job applications because of their age. Sometimes younger people do not get promoted because of their age even though they possess the quality to perform a higher job.
Racial discrimination is the type of discrimination that is based on color. African Americans were severely discriminated based on color and that led to the civil rights movement in the United States. However, today, the society has changed its views towards racial discrimination to a large extent.
Gender discrimination is the situation where only one particular sex is promoted and it is either the male or the female.
Obesity discrimination is the latest to afflict the society where obese people are given differential treatment.
Disability discrimination is also similar where people with mental or physical disabilities are treated differently.
There are many more subtle forms of discrimination affecting various people in the society.
