Age Discrimination In Employment Cases

Age discrimination is very common with employment because several people are discriminated mainly because of their age. There are two kind of age discrimination with employers. One is they discriminate the people because they are too young to handle a particular job role. The candidate may not get promoted because the employer feels he or she is too young. However, the candidate may have all the necessary qualifications to take up the new promotion. This is one kind of age discrimination harming the younger professionals.

Another kind of age discrimination is the one that is meted out to seniors. People who are the above age of 60 and retired are actually increasing in number and several of them look for alternative jobs after retiring. However, the process is uphill for such people because they get rejected several times by employers. One of the main reasons they have to undergo rejection despite of their experience is because of their age. Several employers do not encourage applications from older people because it does not help their cost cutting measures for one and then they are also not seen as active employees.

This is the type of age discrimination faced by seniors or younger age group people. However, the ADA and other Civil Rights Act prohibit people employers from discriminating people based on age. Seniors are also discouraged from getting promotions in their jobs by their own managers. There have been several cases fought in the judicial courts based on age discrimination and nearly 80 percent of them have been filed by seniors.
