History Of Employment Discrimination Laws
Employment discrimination is not new in the US and has been existent ever since racial discrimination cropped up in the US. Previously the African American people were mostly slaves and that phase continued for a long time. It is when the African American community started getting educational rights and also sought better opportunities, the instances of racial discrimination also started. |

It was not only racial discrimination, but also gender based discrimination was much prevalent in the society. Women were restricted strictly to certain kinds of professions like teaching or secretarial jobs. There was also age discrimination present in the society ever since historic times. One of the biggest problems in the society since historic times has been racial discrimination.
However, only after the Congress passed the ADEA rule in 1967, the instances of discrimination was taken more seriously by law and employers were legally prohibited form discriminating job applicants and existing employees. Slowly the African American people started receiving better job offers because of the law. Else they were restricted to menial jobs until the act was legalized in the society.
The employment laws governed by the ADEA have become more stringent now and they are addressed immediately should they receive a complaint against an employer. Previously before two or three decades it was not so. People still had to fight for their rights. Now employment discrimination is being faced by people from various communities. The recent recession and excessive number of job lay offs have caused more reasons for the number of cases of discrimination.
