According to the United States law, the Federal Housing Act says that nobody can be refused housing based on their gender, sex, familial status, race, caste, religion, nationality and disability. Every one has a right to housing in their own capacity. The Fair Housing Act was introduced in 1958 by the Congress. At that time there was a lot of discrimination based on race and color in the United States of America. People refused to sell or rent houses based on color.

The name Fair Housing Act came largely because of the prevailing circumstances at that time. A broad range of providers like mortgage companies, real estate companies, government housing agencies and renters and sellers were covered by the law. Even advertisements for selling and buying were covered by the act. For example, no advertisement should explicitly say that the house is available only for certain types of people. The Fair Housing Act came into existence in 1958. It is also known as the Title VIII of Civil Rights Act. The congress government was responsible for passing this act. This act helps to avoid indiscrimination against race, sex, color, caste, creed, nationality and origin while providing housing. Due to this act, people from all classes are protected and can avail equal opportunity for housing.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development is mainly covered by this act. No kind of discrimination is allowed when a person applies for housing. The Americans with Disability Act or the ADA protects the interests of the disabled by providing them various rights, including fair housing rights. They are also covered under the Fair Housing Act of 1958. The disabled have rights everywhere including the public places, transport, local government, employment, transportation and everything that a normal person would enjoy.

They cannot be denied any facility, and also a business has to make sure that their accessibility options and interests are incorporated as a part of their business.
