Examples Of Gender Discrimination

Gender discrimination is considered against the law and is punishable in the US. Gender discrimination cannot occur in employment and housing and in any place according to the law. Gender discrimination is the act of treating or behaving with an employee differently based on the person's gender. It could mean that either the employee is being given preferential treatment or vice versa.

The Fair Employment Act says that all genders have to be treated equally and one cannot show biased views or opinions in employment for one sex especially. That would amount to gender discrimination. It is commonly understood that women are mainly targets of gender discrimination but the law applies to both men and women equally. In the past, women were discriminated and they were not promoted to higher positions based on their gender. However, today, women are leaders of top companies and they also play an active role in the politics.

A person who has been discriminated base don gender, whether it is a man or a woman can go to the court asking for justice against the person or employer who has discriminated. Gender, race, nationality and sexual orientation should not come in the way of employment. The gender discrimination is clearly defined by the Equal Opportunity Act of the Employment Act and all the rules have been clearly mentioned. Also, what circumstances would define as discrimination is also written. For instance, an advertisement for employment can not say that only males need to apply. It would be considered as discrimination against women. An employer cannot decide what job role is suited for mean and women without giving them a chance.
