Gender Discrimination In The Military

Women have played a very important role in wars in history in various civilizations of different countries. The concept of women participating in military combat is not something that is new. It has existed for a very long time. The earliest known women in military, as the evidence, date back to more than 4,000 years.

The role of women in military combat is a controversial one in the US Army. However, it is in the modern world that women are excluded from army combats and they are given last preference to be sent to the war areas. The reason lays in gender based differences and in a way we can call it discrimination. When men and women have been trained equally for combat then both should be given an equal opportunity to be in war and face the enemy. However, the confidence factor vested in women is very low so it is not easy to come by women who have gone to the war field in modern days.

If you notice in the modern army, there are hundreds of decorated soldiers but very rarely do you come across a decorated woman soldier. The reason is it is not easy to come across women who have been in the war field and therefore their achievements are low and so they are not decorated. It is the sheer lack of opportunities that is restricting them from achieving honor. Since men and women have to go through the same level of training for being in the combat field they should also be given an equal opportunity.
