Language And National Origin Discrimination

There has always been a high rate of immigration to the United States for over a century now. It is a growing country and more immigration is expected in the future. People belonging to different nationalities and speaking different languages are going to come to the US. However, under such circumstances if there is an under current of language and national origin discrimination, it could send bad vibes inn the society.

It is against law to discriminate people based on nationality or race. Also, it is a must that people be given a fair chance of employment irrespective of their nationality and the language they speak. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is a federal agency that puts into effect the anti discrimination laws. They do not favor any rules saying that people speaking other languages should not be given preference over people speaking English language.

The most troubling aspect in the US when it comes to discrimination is that English rules as the predominant language and in a way it restricts several other people from various ethnic backgrounds. The Civil Rights Law and Employment Act ban anyone who discriminates based on nationality. An employer can also be discriminating by banning all other spoken languages except English. However, as per the US employment laws, the employees can speak in which ever language they like. If an employee is at a work place where there is English only rule, then they can file for indiscrimination based on language. Also, the workplace should be free enough to help people express their cultural identity.
