Degrees Of Harassment

Harassment is an act of tormenting a person on certain issues and making that person undergo an emotional trauma. After harassment, the victim may experience a bitter feeling about the incident for a long time. The victim could be harassed by more than one person at a time. It is a deliberately made attempt on victim with or without any proper reason.

The victim can be harassed by means of talking gratingly, writing, following behind a person, black mailing, etc. Any kind of harassment leaves the victim with emotional trauma, whereas some of the harassments can even cause severe physical pain.

Harassment is often very brutal and it is an attempt to subdue the victim to one’s wish which always goes against the law, as every individual is unique and have their own individuality. It always goes against the wish of the individual and makes them subservient to the wishes of the person who is harassing them.

The degree of harassment may vary with person to person. Some people may take things lightly and go on with the day to day life, but for few the harassment could be a life threatening one. The effect of harassment on the victim depends on the type of harassment the victim is exposed to.

There are different degrees of harassment happening across the globe. Harassment may be a minor or major one. If it is a misdemeanor, then the wrongdoer may be penalized and often prevented from contacting the victim again. If the harassment is not very serious and happened without any intention, then the perpetrator may not subjected to the heavy penalties.

If any harassment is considered as a felony or it occurs repeatedly even after the victim’s warning, then the offender will end being punished severely by the court of law. The probable punishments given for the harassment includes fines, counseling the offender, probation or imprisonment. The punishment varies with the degree of harassment.

The offender is punished based on various factors that include the region, state and the country where the harassment took place. Each locality has its own laws and punishments. If the harassment is considered as first degree crime and a repeated offense, then the offender would be sentenced severely.

In today’s world, harassments can be easily proven with the evolution of modern technology, like cell phones, recorders, videotapes, and cameras. So, an offender can be booked for this crime.
