What Are The Reasons For Child Abuse ?
If you thought that child abuse occurs only in the economically weaker sections of society or is an act of an extremely violent individual; you certainly are in for a surprise. Child abuse has been reported in all social and economic sects of society. The treatment is invariably the consequence of the inability of a parent to cope with stressful circumstances in life. |
Children of parents who are not well equipped to fulfill the demands of parenthood are the most vulnerable to child abuse. Some of the known reasons of child abuse include immaturity, having unrealistic expectations, not having emotional needs satisfied, the stress of taking care of a child, economic crisis, domestic violence, not having sufficient parenting knowledge, problems in forming relationships, depression or other mental health problem, and drug or alcohol problems.
Of these reasons, mentally or psychologically unstable parents are most prone to enter into child abuse. Such parents have no control over their actions and can offend their children without any practical reasons or provocations. Failure in coping with the rising demands of children due to financial insufficiencies can increase stress in the house. Abusing a child in such circumstances is more of an emotional outburst. Bringing another human being into this world is a huge responsibility. Having the capability to produce a child and the competence to rear the child in the optimum way are two completely separate issues. Child abuse and neglect are common repercussions of inadequate parenting skills, a trait that can be improvised upon through counseling.
