Worst Child Abuse Cases In United States

It would be impossible to pinpoint any one particular case as the worst case of child abuse in the US. The definition of the word ‘worst’ would probably vary for different people. Some may designate physical abuse as the worst, while another person could put sexual abuse on the top. Moreover, some of the worst cases are never brought into public light, mainly because the abused never survives the crime.

The case of abuse of Genie in California is certainly a perfect example of human misery at the hands of another human being. Till the age of 13 when the felony was exposed, Genie was confined within the four walls of a room, strapped to a potty chair. The child was hardly fed and was physically abused by her father. The girl spent 13 years in an isolated condition with the ability to only move her hands and feet. As a consequence of the abuse, the child when found weighed less than 60 pounds and displayed no communications skills coherent with her age.

The extremes of human negative behavior are illustrated in the case of abuse of Debra Luptak. Born to a mother who desired a male child, Debra was considered evil right from the start. Her mother confined her to a crib placed in a closet. Over the years, Debra and her younger sister, Danielle, were victims of unsuccessful attempts of homicide, and were made to stay in the basement and were provided just with a mattress and minimal food for survival. Being forced to wear straightjackets as the only form of clothing allowing very limited space for the legs, Debra ended up with a leg deformity. Cigarette burns and pharmaceutical drugs such as Valium were commonly used remedies for keeping the child quiet or sedated. Her mother indulged in horrifying behavior such as pushing a syringe into her vagina to make her urinate and smearing her face with feces. Despite the heinous treatment rendered by her mother, Debra managed to survive due to her undying desire to live and hope for a better future.

However, life had many more miseries in stored for her. Married at the age of 16 and a mother of 4 boys at age 22; Debra still held on to her will power by attaining education and earning a respectful living.

Today, Debra is a famous businesswoman and author, illustrating a true example of triumph over inhuman circumstances.
