Punishment For Juvenile Crimes

Juvenile crime is a punishable offense but often because it is kids that are involved the punishment seems to be punitive. Kids cannot be punished too severely and the best thing to do is to keep them in a juvenile delinquency facility where they serve some time. Depending on the severity of the crime, some kids are kept in prison and others are sent for community service.

Juvenile crime rates have actually grown on an alarming rate and today, are almost double than the adult crime rates actually. Also, statistics show that kids who were involved in crime and were sent to prison are most likely to indulge in crime once again.

Also, research shows that juveniles are least respond to the punishment that is meted out to them simply because they are not of severe nature. They still have to study and go through their daily lifestyle even though they are in prison. So, life does not actually seem much too different for them except that their freedom is taken away. The punishment for juvenile crime also doe not last for a very long period of time. The maximum prison time awarded is either 6 months or 12 months. After that the juveniles are released and only to find them back in prisons as adults. It does not happen with all the kids but the chances are pretty high.

If the parents take extra effort in shaping the future of their child after juvenile crime and imprisonment, there is some scope of improvement.
