States For Same Sex Marriage
Until the year of 2004 gay couples could not even think about getting married and legalizing their relationship. Today, there are nearly six states in the US that have legalized gay marriages. They are Massachusetts, the first state in the country to legalize it, Iowa, Maine, Vermont and last of all it was Hampshire. So, gay couples travel all the way to these states to get married. Also, they are increasingly becoming preferred states to live in because of their cosmopolitan approach. |
Legalizing gay marriage or not has a lot to do with the politics and the ruling party in the State. A conservative political party would never legalize the gay marriage no matter what. The chances of legalizing the gay marriage act are higher if a senator or a public personality in the politics is gay.
There is also an increasing pressure from the gay rights movement to legalize the marriage in all the states. They even campaigned during the Presidential elections and asked for justice. Gay couples have been pushing the cause for legalizing their status because they can also look forward for adoption and starting a family of their own. On the other hand, California approved the ban on the Gay Marriage Act and won the disapproval of the gay community by and large. When a public poll was taken, it was found that majority of the American population actually opposed gay marriages. Only in the Northeast there are some favorable results for legalizing the Gay Marriage Act.
