There are several immigrants that land on the ground of the United States everyday. The United States government has to encounter a lot of problems pertaining to immigration whether it being a security aspect or other concerns. There a lot of issues regarding immigrants in the United States. |
People who seek for cheap labor overseas, ethnic lobbies, religious activists, civil libertarians, ethnical concerns, political interests and humanitarians are the supporters of immigration in the United States. Apart from these, there are some corporate interests involved in the support for immigration. There a few people who support the immigration and similarly, there are few people who oppose the immigration process.
The opponents who are against the immigration policies include the natives who envisage that the non-European migrants are risk to the culture in United States; environmentalists think the growing immigration will boost the overall population and the labor advocates fear that the jobs in united states will be overtaken by immigrants reducing the number of jobs for the United States citizens, and thus, lessening wages in the country. There are battles fought between groups, such as the free marketers that oppose cultural conservatives, the civil rights and ethnic advocacy groups go up against the job protectionists and environmentalists who are opposing the immigrants in the United States. However, despite the opposition, the rate of immigration in the country is rapid and still showing an upward trend.
An immigration act was drafted in year 1924 and the current immigration policy is a response to the same that has eventually reduced the number of visas for immigrants and the visas allocated are on the basis of nationality. The allocated visas were in conjunction with the United States population that alienated the Asians and favored the Europeans. Certain policies were changed in the 1960s and equal opportunity was brought in that opened doors for populace of Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
