What Are Some Current Immigration Laws ?
Immigration is one of the turning points of the lives many people looking for better opportunities, in terms of lifestyle, jobs, etc. Thus, people usually immigrate to a country far advanced and inviting than their own native place. This is where America gains its popularity. Every year, thousands and thousands of desiring candidates apply for immigration. Some of them are selected and some are not. Yet some others are made to wait a longer time due to specific reasons. Thus, there are strict rules and laws governing this all important process of immigration. |
The foremost step a candidate willing to immigrate to a country should take is to get a visa of that place. There are various classifications of visa based on the activities allowed to the person holding it in the specific country. For instance, people entering a country only for touring purpose are issued a tourist visa, which may later be changed into a permanent one.
Once, the visa is made permanent, obtaining a green card becomes the next obvious step. Green Card is the proof of the candidate’s permanent residency in the new country. With its possession only, the immigrant can become eligible to work and put up a house in the country. And only after being a permanent resident for a stipulated time can the immigrant apply for full citizenship of the country.
However, if the applicant marries a citizen of that country or if he is granted the visa from the company he works in, then also he is eligible for the permanent resident status. After staying for a specified period as a permanent resident, the immigrant is now eligible to apply for a full citizenship, which will allow him all the rights like any other born in that country. For this, he needs to be fluent in English language, pass a citizen’s test and have a good opinion about the country to be adopted among various other factors.
