Both the Democrats and Republicans have reached a consensus on the new immigration bill which would be able to grant legal status to over 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. However, critics believe that this bill has its own pitfalls which could be detrimental to security of the country.
The earlier immigration bill was a system based one which focused primarily on keeping families together. However, the new immigration bill is all about giving legal status to immigrants based on their job skills. This means that at least 600,000 guest workers will be able to enter the U.S. legally but they will not be able to bring along their families and will be able to stay in the country for 2 years at a time for a maximum of 6 years.
America has always been the land of dreams where any and everyone was always welcome. The country has always provided opportunities to anyone immaterial of race, religion and national origin as long as people worked hard. This in turn has lead to the prosperity and diversity of the country.
The new immigration bill has radically changed and transformed the U.S. immigration system in just one go. However, tougher enforcement at the Mexican border will not solve the illegal immigrant issue. But one thing is for sure that many immigrants will be approaching lawyers and attorneys to see how they can bring their families into the country. The lawyers on the other hand will exploit all the available loopholes in the new immigration bill to help the clients.
