What Does Naturalization Mean ?
Naturalization is the term given to the process of adopting a foreign country as one’s own and getting permanent resident status there after meeting with certain criteria. Naturalization is a much sought after dream of many people from all corners of the world. |
People think about naturalizing to another country when certain requirements do not meet up to their expectations in their native country. So obviously, people would like to naturalize into a far more advanced and well developed country, with a wide variety of opportunities waiting for them. Thus, developed countries like the US, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia are popular choices with most people hoping to immigrate.
The process of naturalization is comprised of many steps and stages. One cannot just go to a country of his choice and adopt it as his own. There are certain rules and regulations governing the country to be followed to achieve the status.
First of all, visa is a primary requirement for anyone hoping to immigrate to a foreign land. The visa must be upgraded to work status or permanent status to continue with the next step of naturalization. Obtaining a Green Card, which is the main proof of permanent residence status of a foreigner in that land, is the next step. For that, the person needs to stay in the country wherein he wants to naturalize for a continuous stretch of 5 years minimum to be eligible for getting a Green Card. Otherwise, marrying a native person after a span of three years of staying in the country may cut down on the time factor, as that is also an eligibility criteria of obtaining a Green Card. Only after this, the person can apply for citizenship or naturalization by appearing for the relevant tests conducted by the country’s government.
