What Is A Refugee ?
Refugees again form a very common debatable topic that is discussed by people live as well as online quite often. A refugee would be a person who has actually been forced for fleeing his or her own country just because of some war, persecution or any other sort of violence. Refugees are under well founded fear of harassment in terms of nationality, religion, race, and membership in any social group or their political opinion. |
These people are most likely afraid to go back home, and thus, cannot do so. Some of the most important causes behind such refugees fleeing their own countries include war & ethnic, religious as well as tribal violence.
Refugees were basically defined as some legal group in context of a large number of people who fled from Eastern Europe after World War II. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, most commonly known as UNHCR, is basically an international agency that looks after refugee protection and counted around 8,400,000 refugees across the world during the starting of the year 2006. This number is supposed to be the lowest since 1980.
The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants is an organization that claims that the total number of refugees in the whole world is around 62,000,000, out of which 34,000,000 have been displaced due to wars, including the internally displaced people and people remaining within the same national boundaries. It has been observed that most of the refugees, who leave their respective countries, are known to seek asylum in their neighboring countries for nationality.
