How To Apply For Visa ?
Applying for U.S visa and getting one may take few months to several years. Some people might also get it in just a few weeks. Actually, it all depends on the successful completion of paperwork, submission of all the required documents, the kind of visa applied for, and the status of the applicant with regard to the US. |
Although a U.S visa cannot be guaranteed to every applicant, here are a few simple steps on how to apply for it to save your time, effort, and money.
- Step 1: Contact the nearest INS (Immigration & Naturalization Service) office if you are a US resident or the American embassy if you stay in another country.
- Step 2: Ask the concerned department to send you all the required visa application documents/forms.
- Step 3: Also, inquire if you will be required to appoint a native U.S. sponsor, ready to take up your financial responsibility in case you fail to sustain yourself. If yes, you must begin searching for a resident of U.S., who can sponsor you immediately.
- Step 4: Once you receive all the documents, fill out the primary application form completely, and send it back to them for processing. Make sure all the required documents, application fee, and your photographs are enclosed with the form, as directed.
- Step 5: If the office is located near to you, it is advisable to submit it in person instead of sending it through certified mail. This will not only save a lot of your time, but will also allow you to correct the mistakes, if any, in the form instantly.
- Step 6: Once the first set of documents are accepted, you will be given a second set of documents, based on the kind of visa you have applied for and your residency status.
- Step 7: In case the documents are not available in English, get them translated officially.
- Step 8: Once all the documentary formalities and paperwork are completed, fix an appointment for physical exam, filing appointment, or an interview at the INS office or the embassy. It is advisable to complete this step in person. After two days or so, you shall be given an appointment and also informed whether or not you stand a chance of obtaining the U.S. visa.
