If you are the distracted type, then get into a mode where you practice some kind of relaxation technique before you start driving on the road. This is very important for your own safety as well that of others. When you practice something like yoga, your mind is relaxed and you have better clarity. Never start driving when you are feeling out of sorts and are stressed out.
If you have worked late at work and are very drowsy, then it is better to hail a cab than driving yourself. Either ask someone for a ride or take a cab home which is much safer. When a person starts feeling drowsy and has a long way to drive, then no matter how much they try to control their sleep, they can fall asleep at any time. This can happen even while driving. This can be worse than drunken driving as the dangers are even higher.
