At this age a kid does not care much about the repercussions of drunk driving and the dangers of it. They do not care about their driver's license or the fact that insurance costs can go high. Several kids are not scared of prison too. This irresponsible behavior takes some time to change.
Statistics reveal that in the year 2007, out of 12,998 cases of drunken driving in the United States about 1,393 were caused due to drunk driving by teenagers. Nearly 28 percent of the teenagers get killed in road accidents, and most of the time the fault is theirs. Drinking hampers judgment skills, and teenagers are prone to drive and drink recklessly. Also, they flout rules like exceeding speed limits and not wearing their seat belts at the same time. This only makes them more danger prone. Teenage driver fatalities constitute 40 percent of alcohol related accidents in the US. Majority of the accidents due to teenagers occur on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Weekends is the prime time for teenagers driving drunk.
According to studies, younger adults who have crossed teenage years are less prone to drinking and then driving. However, adolescents and teenagers who have just got their driver's license and are under learning license tend to break speed limits when drunk.
