Most of the times, cops hide and shoot the vehicles with a radar gun to check the speed limit. Sometimes people still get a speed ticket and they do not know how because they never felt there was a cop there. These speeding tickets are a result of a speed trap. Cops set up speed traps at various spots on highways and freeways, for example.
A speed trap is an equipment which works in ambush actually. It is usually hidden in bushes and behind signs so that people do not take note of it. It is very difficult to tell where there is a speed trap. If you see unusual bushes or sign posts, then it is best to avoid them by maintaining a moderate speed limit. Some of the ideal places where a speed trap will be set up are straight roads and winding roads where people are most likely to speed.
The speed trap will have a stop clock and a camera. It will measure the time taken for the vehicle to pass through the speed trap and based on that the speed that it was traveling at is calculated. So if you have been speeding even for a short while in a speed trap zone then you are likely to get a speeding ticket.
